Green Plains Cattle Company’s Eckley, Colorado location is a 49,000 head feedyard located 4.5 miles north of Highway 34 in northeast Colorado.
The feedyard sits 22 miles from Yuma, Colorado, which has a population of 3,500. The feedyard sits in the center of Yuma County, which offers moderate summers, crisp falls, cool winters and warm spring. They average 260 days of sunshine and 16.7″ of annual rainfall.
In 1975 the feedyard was constructed by the Wayne Larson Family and had a capacity of 10,000 head. Over the years, the feedyard was expanded several times, in the 1980’s it was expanded to a feeding capacity of 15,000 head. Between 1998 and 2003 it was expanded another 10,000 head of feeding capacity. Cargill Cattle Feeders acquired the yard in 2006 and in 2008 they nearly doubled the capacity to 49,000, which is what it remains today.
