Green Plains Cattle Company’s Leoti, Kansas feedyard is a 106,000 head facility.
The Leoti feedyard is unique in the fact that is sits on both sides of Highway 25. The feedyard is located close to the center of Wichita County, sitting six miles north of the town of Leoti.
The east feedyard was built by Orbit Industries and then purchased by Caprock Industries in 1975. The original feedyard had capacity to feed 30,000 head. In 1976 a 10,000 head addition was complete and in 2002 another 12,000 head capacity was added. The west feedyard was built by High Plains with a feeding capacity of 35,000. In 1978 Caprock Industries purchased the feedyard from High Plains. In 1985 a 12,000 head addition was completed.
On May 16, 2017 Green Plains Inc. purchased the yard along with a yard in Eckley, Colorado from Cargill. This acquisition positioned Green Plains Cattle Company as the fourth largest cattle feeder in the US.
